Radlands, Northampton.......

A video posted on the Thrasher website yesterday reminded me how good Radlands was and how much time i spent there over the years it was there. 1992 to 2004. A few pictures i took and i snuck one of me at the end too, after Colin Mckay though.

14. Phil's birthday skate at Campus skatepark , Bristol. 26th February 2012

Phil rented out Campus Skatepark in Bristol on Sunday for a birthday skate. I caught the train up to Bristol from Swansea and met Rob at the station. First we went round to Phil's house to check out the garden miniramp. So good, really small and fun.

Only got a few minutes before we had to head off to Campus over in Bedminster so sticking to the rules laid down by Twiss the mini don't count in the 42 spots project...maybe we will get to go back there sometime. Inspired to build a again....here's the one that used to be outside my flat in Leicester; Dave's ramp!

Anyway, back to the present and a quick drive across Bristol to Campus.

So this has been spot 14 on my way to 42 before June 20th. Sticking with the D.I.Y. ethic of today Campus was built mainly out of reclaimed wood and found materials, the garden mini likewise and as we left Campus dished out free copies of the D.I.Y. issue of Kingpin magazine . Pondering locations for homemade spots i caught the train home to Swansea.

Thanks Phil and Happy Birthday!

Another step closer to finishing my documentary.....Arwyn Davies interview 21/02/12

Got to meet up with Arwyn today down at a very windswept Cardiff plaza to interview him for my very ongoing documentary project. Plenty of great Morfa stories in the can and ready for editing. Can't wait to finally put this thing together and Arwyn's enthusiasm has given me a boost to keep on with it at a faster pace....

12 and 13...Road trip with Tomsk, The tunnel, Aberdare and Hirwaun. 14th February 2012 (St Valentines day massacre)

2 new spots and an old one, first dry day for a while. Headed over to the tunnel armed with a brush. Needs a bit of new cement and maybe we can skate both sides one day. Next trip up there with a bag of cement and a bucket of water i think. A few kickturns later we headed up the Neath valley, quick check of the "vert" ramp at Crynant and it was wet amongst other things that put us off. Onward to Aberdare and being half term there were a few surly scooter kids but we got to skate 2 of the 3 bowls after a bit of sweeping. Hirwaun on the way home...nice, windswept and bleak. Good little local roadtrip with Tomsk on a rare dry day.

This place is the antithesis of a good spot. It has no love, skill or knowledge in it's construction or placement. It's a great example of a council blindly throwing money at something it knows nothing about. Put a terrible mini ramp in the furthest corner of a damp field and hope the kids are happy, well they are not! Or to look at this another way in this day and age of perfect, well thought out bowls and plazas....a quirky, kinked hard to skate spot that is dying out, once they were common but in 2012 they are few and far between..challenging and difficult, coping all over the place, weird transitions and today wet and muddy. All spots have something so variety being the spice of life i would recommend a visit....see the map for location and make the most of whatever is out there.

Not really a spot but a time and the feel of a place....

As Gregg and Ron said this one is for Twiss....The Boneless Ones, longtime soundtrack to the Swansea skate scene and skaters themselves at one time or another. This was at The Garage in Uplands a while back, maybe a year or so.

With the lack of dry, warm weather i'm looking back to 2006.....

Don't think i'll get the chance to head back to Bilbao before June 20th but one day. 2006 was a good year and on top of a trip to New York i went to the Basque country with Rich, Styley and Andy to skate the concrete parks around Bilbao. Pictures by Styley, Andy Vost and me.
